Coupeville Soroptimist raise funds to ‘Make a Difference’ By KATE DANIEL

kdaniel@whidbeynewsgroup.com

Soroptimist International of Coupeville (SIOC) is gearing up for its annual fundraiser in which attendees can give back while enjoying an evening of delectable dishes, desserts and wine. The group is the Central Whidbey chapter of the international organization whose volunteer members dedicate their efforts to improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to economic and social empowerment, according to the organization web site. Soroptimist means “best for women,” and approximately 75,500 Soroptimists in 130 territories and countries support global and community-based projects for the benefit of women and girls, according to the web site. The SIOC Women and Wine — Making a Difference Fundraiser is one of its primary fundraising efforts. Proceeds from the event will fund the various projects the organization is involved with throughout the year, including Live Your Dream, a scholarship program for women enrolled in school who are financially responsible for their family; Dream It, Be It, a scholarship for high school girls; My Fairy Godmother, a formal attire giveaway for girls preparing to go

The Making a Difference Fundraiser will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Ciao in Coupeville. The event will include a four-course gourmet Italian tapas meal, paired with fine wines. Seating is limited to 50 attendees. Tickets cost $75 per person. Tables of four can be reserved with a prepaid ticket. There will also be a dessert auction for desserts made or purchased

by SIOC volunteers, as well as a raffle for a Seahawks basket and a surprise raffle item. According to Jan Bronson, the committee chairperson for the fundraiser, the event has always been popular in the past. “People have just loved it, so we’re happy to come back and do it again,” she said. Last year, Bronson said seats were sold out and approximately $3,000 was raised for the organization’s programs. Tickets can be purchased at Cascade Insurance Agency or by calling Bronson at 360-678-7097.
