Having arrived at work about 5:30 one recent morning, Giovanni di Quattro, owner of the Rainbow Café, found a man asleep at the back door of his
restaurant. Di Quattro woke the man and told him to leave. Cursing, the sleeper got up, stuck his paw in a nearby can and began to scrounge for his morning cigarette butts. “You need to leave; this is pri-
vate property,” di Quattro pressed. As the man was walking away, he snarled at di Quattro: “You know, I think I should just come back and pop you.” Recently, di Quattro continued, another man came in off the
street, and for no reason began elbowing patrons. He refused to leave until the police were called in. “We have a sign up that says, ‘restrooms for customers only,’ but they are constantly coming in and

County removes one site for new transfer station REPORTER STAFF
King County has eliminated a site on West Valley Highway in Auburn from its list of candidates for a new recycling and solid waste transfer station in South King County. According to a press release, “review thus far has determined that a site located at 28721 West Valley Highway South in Auburn just north of the 37th Street West Valley Highway intersection is not a reasonable alternative, cannot feasibly attain the proposal’s objectives, and has been eliminated as a potential location for a new transfer station.” King County’s Solid Waste Division made the announcement as it issued a Revised Determination of Significance and request for comments on the scope of Environmental Impact Statement in [ more STATION page 5 ]

One day each November, Auburn’s Main Street shapeshifts into a sea of military might, a milelong parade honoring veterans of all stripes, a spirited 2½-hour march bursting with music, flags, salutes, tears and applause.
