Frightville takes over Roller Barn with haunted asylum By RON NEWBERRY Staff reporter

Frightville is getting a little crazy for its 15th year. The annual haunted house held inside Oak Harbor’s century-old Roller Barn this month has chosen an “Asylum” theme for 2015. Last year, the theme was “Freak Show.” “The basic rundown is that it’s an abandoned asylum where the patients have run loose,” said Brian Boyle, the event’s organizer and the man behind the “Mr. Giggles” evil clown character with bright red hair. Only this year, he’s graduated to “Dr. Giggles” status. “There’s also Dr. Psycho,” Boyle said, referring to the greenhaired clown played by Phil Sellers, another event organizer. Frightville 15 will be open six nights: Oct. 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. Haunting tours take place from 7 p.m. until midnight each night, except for Halloween, which falls on a Saturday, when hours are extended until 1 a.m. Tickets are $10 but increase to $15 during the last hour known as the “witching hour” when tours are conducted in total darkness. There also are child-friendly matinees with lights on from noon to 2 p.m. during the three Saturday dates.

lasts about 25 minutes. Frightville will cover 27 rooms this year, each creatively furnished and decorated with certain scares in mind.

XTRA SPECIAL!

Each January, a committee meets to come up with an event theme and ideas for each room. Two years ago, the theme centered around a haunted hotel.

“This year we have an electric shock therapy room,” Boyle said. “There are a lot of surprises in that room.”
