Tacoma Bid Watch
Fire Station No. 1 upgrades, TPU lobby displays, and bikeshare study The Tacoma Daily Index often publishes the City of Tacoma's calls for bids asking contractors to meet the City's needs on a range of supplies, services, and projects. Here is a short-list of some recent and notable calls for bids issued from Tacoma City Hall. First, the City is accepting bids on a parking lot improvement project at Fire Station No. 1, located at 901 Fawcett Ave., in downtown Tacoma. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the project will remove the asphalt parking lot surface, a section of the concrete driveway, a section of the builtin concrete planter boxes and vegetation, adjoining sections of sidewalk and curb, and other unwanted vegetation. The parking lot will be repaved, new sidewalks and curbs will be installed, and parking lines will be painted. The project budget is estimated at $75,000 to $100,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Weds., Sept. 16. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. Second, the City is looking for a consultant to conduct a Community Needs Assessment to help prioritize human and social needs and guide the development of future funding strategies, according to a legal notice published last month in the Tacoma Daily Index. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the project calls for a consultant to: — conduct a policy review on all related City strategic plans, legislation, and guiding documents; — analyze policy documents of partner agencies to include Pierce County plans, Tacoma 2025, the Continuum of Care, et cetera; — conduct research and collect data regarding the unmet needs and service gaps in Tacoma, guided by the priorities set forth in the policy related to the City and its partner agencies; — explore traditional and creative engagement tools with City officials, staff, Tacoma's Human Service Commission, partner organizations, and community members for the purpose of gathering information on the quantifiable need and service gaps to lead to the development of policies to prioritize the funding of human and social services programs; — attend planning meetings with City staff as scheduled; analyze studies and related planning documents, as well as and identify additional needs;

(IMAGES COURTESY TACOMA PUBLIC UTILITIES) — coordinate and plan a process to engage the community to inform the Community Needs Assessment; provide summary reports on selected phases of the Community Needs Assessment; — coordinate the Community Needs Assessment process and draft the report; — and present draft summary reports to Tacoma's Director of Neighborhood and Community Services, his/her designee(s) and City Manager and final reports to Tacoma City Council and community stakeholders as appropriate. The project budget is estimated at $70,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 29. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. Third, Tacoma Power is seeking proposals from contractors to develop three marketing and educa-
tional displays as part of a lobby renovation started this summer at Tacoma Public Utilities headquarters, according to a legal notice published last month in the Tacoma Daily Index. Documents prepared by City staff show the educational displays must engage customers and build awareness about energy-saving products, rebates, and incentives, as well as be informative and interchangeable for future use. The project budget is estimated at $25,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 29. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. Fourth, as reported earlier this week (see "City issues RFP for Tacoma Bikeshare Planning Study," Tacoma Daily Index, Sept. 14, 2015), the City has issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) seeking consultants to complete the Tacoma Bikeshare Planning Study, according to a legal notice published this month in the Tacoma Daily Index.
