Northshore School District boundary changes finalized Some students could face changing schools four consecutive years, waivers required BY DEANNA ISAACS disaacs@bothell-reporter.com

he Northshore School District (NSD) announced the final draft plan for boundary changes that will impact the lives of each family in the Northshore area on May 29. “This is all-around
creating a service area for North Creek High School and adjusting the boundaries to relieve some significant over-crowding that’s mainly impacting the north and central part of the district,” said NSD Superintendent Larry Francois. The Enrollment and Demographics Task Force
(EDTF) worked with the community through open houses and online or telephone surveys, getting all the information they needed to ensure that the process was as smooth and as efficient as possible. This group of volunteers spent untold hours sifting through data, public comment and
more. “Since mid-March through mid-May, the EDTF has been reviewing all of that input - every single comment, every single piece of information that was received was looked at…,” Francois said. “There were about a dozen or more changes of varying levels, some more
minor, some more significant, that occurred in the plan as result of feedback we received from the final plan and the work the EDTF has done over the
last several months.” That’s still not enough to ensure that the impacts to students will be minimal. The NSD has already stated that there will be some students who may be switching schools often, as much as four times in four years. A residential fire in Bothell claimed the life of one person late in the evening on June 3, according to the Bothell Police Department. Diane NottinghamJohnson, age 53, died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s office. The home is located in Bothell in the 11100 block of NE 145th St. “Last night at about 10 p.m., Kirkland fire received information about a Kirkland house fire…,”

The cause of the fire was found to be accidental. First responders from Kirkland, Bellevue and Bothell all showed up to the fire and quickly extinguished the blaze, but not before neighbors attempted to do their part with garden hoses. “I heard some crackling and popping, and I was on my computer and looked out the back - it was all hazy in my back yard - and then I looked to the left and there was full flames shooting out the back of their windows,” said Casey Stewart, a [ more FIRE page 7 ]

attacked her with a knife shortly after 4 a.m. on June 8. She’d been sleeping in her home near the 2200 block of 196th Street SW. She was listed in critical condition with stab wounds to her body, arms, hands and neck, according to a police report.

said Bothell police Sgt. Ken Seuberlich. “Once the fire was extinguished, personnel found what they identified as a body inside. Investigators then looked at the scene as a crime scene - which is standard practice.” Bothell police, along with the Bothell Fire Department investigated the cause of the fire. “There’s two people that reside at this residence… the home-owner came home to find the house fully involved,” Seuberlich said. Bothell police have taken a statement from the homeowner and released him.
