A

deal has been reached between a real estate investment group connected with Bothell Mayor Joshua Freed and conservation organization Forterra, with the assistance of local citizen group OneBothell, for the preservation of the backnine property of Wayne Golf Course in Bothell. The announcement, made June 1, comes after months of community turmoil concerning the development of the property. “This is huge progress,” said James McNeal, President of OneBothell. “The Back 9 has always been the biggest prize for the communityboth for recreation, as an extension of Blyth Park and its conser-

vational value for the recovery of endangered species in the state of Washington.” According to the agreement, Forterra has until Aug. 6 to get the property appraised and evaluated, and to secure funding sources to purchase the property, with closing occurring no later than Aug. 20. Freed, who is also the primary public figure of the company that purchased the back-nine from the Richards family, and Michelle Connor, executive vice president of Forterra, announced the agreement, which will allow Forterra to purchase the 39acre back-nine of the Wayne Golf Course, avoiding the potential development of the property for housing. “I am pleased we were

City Council races set with nine candidates; Lamb, Evans not running

andidate filings for all City Council races have been finalized and all of the Bothell City Council positions will hold primaries, while only one of four incumbents on the Kenmore City Council will face a challenger. In Bothell, only Andy Rheaume has filed for reelection. “When I was first elected, my daughter was threemonths old; she’ll turn 12 this summer,” Council-

member Mark Lamb said. “I’ve loved serving on the council and loved serving the community of Bothell and I’m excited to have new faces and new folks step up into leadership in our community.” Both Lamb, who currently holds position 6 and is a former mayor, and Councilman Bill Evans, who holds position 4, did not file for reelection. “When I initially got on the council, I thought I was just going to run for one term. Brent Smith (position 1), Milton Curtis (position 3) and Stacey Denuski (position 7) will be running unopposed in the upcoming elections cycles. As the elections season ramps up in Bothell and Kenmore, the Reporter has created a new series, along with the hashtag #Vote2015, to help explore the nine candidates vying for a council position.
