Pattern of bad conduct Everett Fire Dept. officials say they didn’t have a complete picture of Pete Vier’s bad behavior until his arrest in an underage sex sting By Rikki King Herald Writer
EVERETT — Looking back, there was a pattern. Pete Vier’s troubling behaviors were well-documented long before the Everett firefighter was arrested in November in an underage sex sting. His bosses and colleagues say they were stunned when they heard Vier, 60, allegedly agreed to pay a Seattle father for sex with the man’s 15-year-old daughter. The father turned out to be an undercover detective and the girl was fictional. Vier is free on bail, facing a July trial in King County on charges of attempted commercial sexual abuse of a minor. A 25-year veteran of the Everett Fire Department, he retired shortly after his arrest. Until July, Vier had been the department’s division chief of emergency medicine, its thirdhighest rank. He was demoted after his disturbing conduct toward women got him banned from Providence Regional Medical Center Everett and from the city of Edmonds. See CONDUCT, Page A16

A new mother, a new father and their adorable baby boy. A hospital, a doctor and joyful wishes. When Dr. Michael Hunter saw Everett’s Emily and Daniel Fletcher at EvergreenHealth Medical Center on Monday, his greeting seemed typical for first-time parents. “Congratulations, Mom,” the doctor said. “I had a little bit of skepticism at the beginning that you were going to make it through.”
“It was not easy,” said Emily Fletcher, clearly exhausted by the long day. The scene wasn’t typical. Hunter doesn’t deliver babies. He is a radiation oncologist at the Kirkland hospital’s Halvorson Cancer Center. They were there for Emily’s 33rd radiation treatment to battle glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive type of brain cancer. Her brain tumor was found after she suffered a seizure in the shower Feb. 3. Baby Harrison was born Feb. 5, six weeks early, by Caesarean section. His See COURAGE, Page A8
