Tacoma Bid Watch

Building demolitions, tide flats road repairs, and South 56th Street signage Article By Todd Matthews, Editor Photos Courtesy City of Tacoma The Tacoma Daily Index often publishes the City of Tacoma's calls for bids asking contractors to meet the City's needs on a range of supplies, services, and projects. Here is a short-list of some recent and notable calls for bids issued from Tacoma City Hall. First, the City is accepting bids to demolish three derelict and abandoned buildings in Tacoma. The first building — a 925-square-foot, 52-year-old singlefamily residence — is located at 1027 E. 60th St. The project budget is estimated at $12,000 to $16,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Fri., March 20. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. The second building — a 716-square-foot, 72-year-old single-family residence — is located at 6956 S. Stevens St. The project budget is estimated at $12,000 to $15,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Fri., March 20. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. The third building — a 1,382-squarefoot, 109-year-old single-family residence — is located at 2236 E. 32nd St. The project budget is estimated at $20,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Fri., March 20. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. The Tacoma Daily Index has closely followed demolitions related to derelict and abandoned buildings. Bid documents prepared by City staff show the project involves removing asphalt pavement, removing and replacing sidewalks, excavating roadways, constructing concrete curbs and gutters, and installing topsoil and wood chips. The project budget is estimated at $16,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Thurs., March 12. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. Incidentally, the project is located near the base of the west end of the century-old East 11th Street Bridge, which spans the Puyallup River and was closed last summer to all vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic for public safety concerns due to deteriorating joints, beams, and trusses (see "Tacoma's East 11th Street Bridge will close Friday," Tacoma Daily Index, July 15, 2014; and "City of Tacoma to close East 11th Street Puyallup River Bridge," Tacoma Daily Index, July 1, 2014). Finally, following up on an item reported earlier in the Tacoma Daily Index (see "Tacoma Bid Watch: Port of Tacoma Road, South 56th Street signage, and a billiard table," Tacoma Daily Index, March 3, 2015), the bid deadline is set to expire this week on a project to install City-supplied signs on existing posts along South 56th Street, replace posts where required, and return salvaged signs to the City, according to information on the City's Web site. The project budget is estimated at approximately $10,000 to $12,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Thurs.,

March 12. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org. Earlier this year, the City awarded a contract to install a gateway entrance sign near the intersection of South 56th Street and South Orchard Street (see "Tacoma Bid Watch: Fire simulation training, ADA street improvements, and gateway signage," Tacoma Daily Index, Jan. 6, 2015).
