Police arrest sex offender suspected of impersonating police officer BY RAECHEL DAWSON rdawson@fedwaymirror.com
Federal Way police are investigating a convicted sex offender believed to have impersonated a police officer on at least two occasions. On Nov. 2, the 29-yearold Tacoma man was arrested on a previous warrant after police tracked him down from a witness report. The witness said a person driving a car with blinking blue and red lights sped and cut him off, nearly causing an accident.
The maroon or red 2001 Ford Taurus with front end damage matched the description of a car from another case that was reported a month earlier. At around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, police were dispatched to a suspicious subject call. Two woman had pulled over their cars in the 4600 block of SW 320th St. to help out a stranded motorist in an intersection. But as they did so, the maroon Taurus with blue and red flashing lights pulled up from behind and a white male stepped out, according to the police report. One of the witnesses “immediately noticed a black handgun holstered to [ more POLICE, page 3 ]
10,647 votes, while Dovey has 9,454 votes. Freeman died last Wednesday morning after a long battle with colon cancer. Freeman’s lead leaves a decision for filling the vacant House seat to the King and Pierce County Councils, which must jointly appoint a Democrat to replace Freeman for one year.
During an election party at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club in Federal Way on Tuesday night, Republican supporters cheered as the initial results were displayed on a screen. “It’s been an honor and a privilege working for you and it’s going to be an honor and a privilege to continue working for you,” Kochmar said to the audience, noting she hopes to work in the Legislature to bring jobs back to the community. She also brought a sense of humor to the evening. “Jack and Mark took all the hits for me this year so I didn’t have to,” she laughed. Dovey told his supporters that though the initial numbers look good for Freeman, “we’ll just keep plugging along” and he hopes the trend will move in his favor. Miloscia took time to thank Sen. Tracey Eide, who is retiring after 16 years in the Legislature. “Senator Tracey Eide has served us nobly and ably for 16 years,” he said, thanking his supporters and his wife for standing behind him. Rep. Roger Freeman (DFederal Way) is leading by 6 percent over his Republican challenger, Jack Dovey, despite passing away six days before Tuesday’s election. Freeman died Oct. 29 after battling cancer, but voters in the 30th Legislative District are voting for him. Early results show Freeman has 53 percent of the vote in the district that covers parts of southern King County and smaller areas of northern Pierce County. Freeman was diagnosed with colon cancer early last year but was optimistic he could serve a second term.
He was elected to his first term in the Legislature in 2012. “I think this is a testament of how the community felt about Roger and it shows that he made an impact in every single life in the 30th District,” said Martin Moore, Federal Way Councilman. “People voted with their hearts last night and now we have an opportunity for the community to say, ‘Lets keep the legacy going, let’s keep the vision of who Roger Freeman was and let’s keep moving his ideals forward.’” If Freeman is elected posthumously, the King County and Pierce County councils would jointly [ more FREEMAN, page 3 ]
