Kent Police confiscated 51 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated street value of $1.5 million at a vacant West Hill home. “It’s a big grow,” said Kent Police spokesman Jarod Kasner about the Sept. 16 bust. “It’s one of the largest we have found in years. It’s abnormal because of the 51 pounds of harvested

Construction continues on Green River Community College’s two coming additions – the Student Life
Center and the Trades Complex across the Auburn campus. According to Sam Ball, director of capital projects at the college, construction has been “typical,” without many delays. “The Trades project has been pretty clean because it was an undeveloped site,” Ball said. “(The)
Student Life (Center) has had more complexities because they found some things that were put in back in the ’60s when the college was first built.” Such infrastructure includes unmarked electrical, water and sewer fixtures that, because of much more [ more PROJECTS page 3 ]

Kent to rename park after former mayor BY STEVE HUNTER shunter@kentreporter.com
After 16 years of trying to get a city of Kent facility named after former mayor Isabel Hogan, Alex Jones finally got his wish. The Kent City Council approved a resolution last week to rename Russell Road Park as Hogan Park at Russell Road to honor the city’s first female mayor and her impact
on parks and arts. Hogan served as mayor from 1970-86. “I’ve been working on this for 16 years and was about ready to give up,” said Jones, a retired city employee, at the Sept. 16 council meeting. “I didn’t think it was going to happen in my lifetime. I am overwhelmed that it has. I worked for the city of Kent for 31 years. “She did so much. All of the em-
ployees that worked for the city under her, we respected her so much we started to call her, ‘Mom.’ ” Council President Dana Ralph praised the work of Hogan, 93, who lives on Scenic Hill. “I just want to say how proud I am to be able to vote on this resolution,” Ralph said.
