‘The worst day of my life’ Family, friends remember former Skyline cheerleader Dani Cogswell BY KELLY MONTGOMERY ISSAQUAH/SAMMAMISH REPORTER

Mindy Carland was in Pennsylvania visiting family when she heard the news. Her daughter, Danielle “Dani” Cogswell, a Skyline graduate currently attending the University of Louisville, had been found dead in her apartment. “It was the worst day of my life,” Carland said. Dani, a former Skyline cheerleader, was 22 and had just completed her first year as a flyer on the Louisville cheerleading squad. Carland said that she and her mother had FaceTimed Dani on Sunday, July 27 at approximately 9 p.m. “We talked for about half an hour and everything was fine,” Car-

land said. “We said I love you and that we’d talk to you tomorrow.” But they didn’t talk the next day. On the morning of July 28, friends of Dani became concerned about her whereabouts and contacted her sister, Alex, who then called Carland. Neither had spoken with Dani that morning. “It was not until around 11:30 a.m. or so that I finally got a call from her cheer coach telling me that Dani had passed away,” said Carland, who was in her hotel room when she got the

news. Carland fell to her knees, crying, praying it was all untrue. “I kept thinking she is totally fine and once I get there with her, she will be OK.” She then called Dani’s father, Glenn, who was just getting into work.

Costco takes over former Microsoft space

CONCERTS CLOSE WITH A BANG

BY DANIEL NASH ISSAQUAH/SAMMAMISH REPORTER

Costco Wholesale Inc. is expanding further into Issaquah. The membership-based warehouse sales company, which has headquartered in the city since 1995, leased 176,656 square feet of office space in the Sammamish Park Place commercial park, according to a release from property owner Vulcan Real Estate. The space in the three-building complex was previously occupied by the Microsoft Corporation, which did not renew its lease this summer. Microsoft continues to occupy the other two buildings in the complex. “...this lease was a great partnership for both parties,” said Ada M. Healey, Vulcan Inc.’s VP of real estate. “We are very pleased to add another Washington-based Fortune 500 company to Sammamish Park Place.” Costco has been working with Issaquah’s municipal government this year to expand its headquarters office space in the city by 1.5 million square feet. A bill regarding the matter will be discussed in the Council Infrastructure Committee meeting Sept. 3 to be considered by the Issaquah City Council.

Issaquah’s Concerts on the Green summer series ended Tuesday with a performance by the BrickHouse Show Band on the outdoor stage of the Issaquah Community Center. The show packed the north lawn and, a few songs in, the stagefront was filled with citizens dancing the night away. BrickHouse Show Band is a cover group specializing in dance pop from every decade of the last century, from classics by Duke Ellington to contemporary hits like Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” or “Let it Go,” from Disney’s “Frozen.” The 2014 closing show was the 150th of the series, begun in 1997 with a performance by Guitar Slim. The series is presented by the City and Kiwanis. DANIEL NASH, Issaquah & Sammamish Reporter
