$5M contract would consolidate operations Posted online Fri., Aug. 22 Article and File Photo By Todd Matthews, Editor The City of Tacoma could soon consolidate the management of its on-street and off-street parking facilities. According to a report prepared by City staff, Tacoma has one contract with Republic Parking Northwest to manage its off-street parking operations, which include 1,700 parking stalls in six garages, and 216 parking stalls in three surface lots, and a separate contract with Xerox for its on-street parking operations, which includes 2,200 parking stalls located within the downtown parking enforcement area. Of that total, 1,800 spots are metered using approximately 160 Parkeon Strada pay stations. The dual management arrangement has been in place for the past five years. The proposed facility will provide Puget Sound Energy residential and commercial customers with natural gas reserves to maintain dependable service on the coldest days of the year, according to Puget Sound Energy officials. It will also provide local transportation companies with a cleaner fuel alternative, including Totem Ocean Trailer Express vessels. The facility is planned for a 30-acre site (pictured) on Alexander Avenue in the Port industrial area. According to Puget Sound Energy officials, the LNG facility will create an estimated 150 construction jobs and 18 permanent jobs. The economic activity from the project will create the

need for over 125 other permanent jobs in the region, as well as 300 jobs during construction. It will also generate additional tax revenues for state and local governments, helping fund important public services. According to Port of Tacoma and Puget Sound Energy officials, the 25-year lease agreement allows for a 12-month feasibility period, which may be extended to 24 months. Upon successful completion of a feasibility period, Puget Sound Energy will spend three years building and installing natural gas processing facilities, storage tanks, containment systems, pipelines, and stormwater systems. The project is expected to be completed and fully operational by 2018. The lease agreement would continue through 2043. More information about the project is available online at tacomacleanlng.com.

2012; and $897,968 in gross revenue in 2011. In March, the City of Tacoma published a legal notice in the Tacoma Daily Index requesting proposals for an estimated six-year, $12 million contract for one company to manage both on-street and offstreet parking operations (see "$12M contract would consolidate Tacoma's parking operations," Tacoma Daily Index, March 10, 2014). The bid deadline expired on Tues., April 8, and three companies submitted proposals (see "3 bidders emerge for downtown Tacoma parking contract," Tacoma Daily Index, Apr. 8, 2014): LAZ Parking (Seattle, Wash.), Republic Parking Northwest (Tacoma, Wash.), and Diamond

Parking Services (Tacoma, Wash.). City staff have prepared a resolution that would award an 18-month contract worth approximately $5 million to Republic Parking Northwest to manage City-owned on-street and off-street parking facilities, including maintenance, deferred maintenance, daily operations, and customer support. The resolution also allows for the option to renew the contract for two additional two-year terms, for a projected contract total of approximately $11 million. Tacoma City Council is exCONTINUED pected to vote on the resolution ON PAGE 2 during a public meeting on Tues.,
