hen Claude Wirkus left the hospital July 24, he realized he had a problem – once he was home, he couldn’t leave. Having his second leg amputated recently, Wirkus realized his home was not wheelchair accessible. Fortunately for him, the East Pierce

The East Pierce Firefighters Benevolence Fund is a non-profit, 501c3 organization, and is operated separately from East Pierce Fire and Rescue. Hunter Chumbley, the chair of the Benevolent fund, received an email on July 16 from a MultiCare facility that Wirkus needed a ramp built to enter and leave his home. Chumbley said that the Benevolent Fund needs to evaluate both the financial cost and the individual community need before it begins a project. Money used by the fund is raised through

The Sumner City Council held a special council meeting on July 28 to discuss improvements to the Sumner S ou nd Tr a n sit Station. With a vote of five to two, the council approved to send a letter of recommendation to the Sound Transit Board. The letter outlines Mike LeMaster priorities the council has identified as important to the community and commuters. Some of the priorities included in the letter are the desire for improvements to the state Route 410 interchange, parking improvements for the station including a new parking garage and other improvements
