Relay for Life raises $120k This year’s theme: Heroes of hope

than a speeding bullet or leap tall buildings in a single bound, but many Relay for Life participants would agree that together, they all had tremendous strength to finish the fight against cancer. More than 278 people participated in the American Cancer Society’s 16th annual Sumner Relay for Life, and
raised $122,150 by the end of the event. About 75 cancer survivors participated in the relay. Many participants sported flowing purple or pink capes, and others dressed up as a comic book superhero. By the start of the relay, the team Andy’s Saints had

Sen. Pam Roach has repaid more than $5,000 in expense funds she received from the Senate administration during the course of about six years. Roach delivered four blank checks to the Senate administration July 22 following a story published in The Pam Roach Courier-Herald and a series of questions forwarded to Secretary of the Senate Hunter Goodman July 21 concerning payments Roach received for her expenses. Goodman was asked if he, as secretary of the Senate, was responsible for any errors or mistakes in Roach’s expense reports. Roach said during a July 18 interview with the newspaper if there was a problem it was not her responsibility – rather, the fault lies with the Senate administration. “The responsibility for this goes to the person writing the check,” Roach said. Keith Buchholz, Senate legal counsel, answered the Courier-Herald query, “The Senate operates on an honor system,” Buchholz wrote. “We receive members’ statements for reimbursements and review them for
