KINGSTON — A Kitsap Transit plan to implement three passenger-only fer-

ries — including one in Kingston — would move forward with approval from the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners and taxpay-

ers. A consultant hired by Kitsap Transit said six round trips per day between Kingston and Seattle could draw an average of 543 riders. Ditto for a passenger ferry from Bremerton and

Southworth. However, the plan needs to be endorsed by the commissioners and receive “adequate local tax support,” according to Carla Sawyer, Kitsap Transit’s passenger-only ferry plan

manager. Kristen Kissinger, project manager with KPFF Consulting Engineers, told the Kitsap Transit Board of Commissioners on July 15 that 12 round trips per day draw an average of 1,099

ANSVILLE — For the third year in a row, John Ellsworth, aka Dr. Slime, will speed headfirst down Benchmark Avenue in Hansville at 30 mph, hoping to reclaim his winning title. The annual Coaster Games in Hansville will take place on Aug. 23, starting at 2 p.m. The Coaster Games started in 2010 when Chuck Strahm, aka Captain Coaster, tried to create an event to attract a younger crowd to the retirement community that is Hansville. Though the attempt was moderately successful, the most enthusiasm for the Coaster Games comes from people like Ellsworth and Strahm who “just want to be 12 again,” Strahm said. has full authority to make ownership decisions, were discussing how the size of the Ale House was too small when the idea of a separate restaurant came up. Their brainstorming became a yet-to-benamed reality. Although the owners haven’t

KINGSTON — A Kingston man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 4-month-old daughter, after he allegedly smoked meth and took the baby for a car ride. Attached to the charge is a special allegation of domestic violence. Bail was set at $1 million. Hector Francisco Saavedra Ruiz, 21, of Kingston was arrested on July 21, four days after Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies and medics were called to his apartment after his daughter had stopped breathing. The infant was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, and eventually to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma where she died on July 18. Doctors treating the girl on July 17 said her injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma, possibly Shaken Baby Syndrome, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office. Doctors reportedly told deputies the baby had recently suffered prolonged lack of oxygen

no trouble attracting spectators; about 200-300 people show up every year, whether it’s to see

passengers. The goal would be to build commuter confidence in the service, Sawyer said. If Kitsap Transit could show commuters the ferry is not a test and will be around
