STAFF REPORT
Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue’s Tracyton fire station will be shuttered by the end of the year, but it isn’t going on the auction block just yet. Fire commissioners this week voted unanimously to allow Fire Chief Scott Weninger to shut down operations at the station, but decided to hold off listing the station as surplus property. Tracyton resident Gary Keenan was the only person to speak at this week’s commission meeting and opposed closing the station. His family SEE FIRE STATION, A9

Luxury condos to open in 2016 BY SERAINE PAGE SPAGE@SOUNDPUBLISHING.COM
If all goes according to plan, Silverdale will have new luxury waterfront condos by mid-2016. It will be the first luxury condo in the area. The condos will be set between Old Mill Park and the Silverdale Beach Hotel on Dyes Inlet. Daybreak Development LLC filed the plans
with the county for the regional commercial lot. “It’s a great site. It’s pretty,” project lead architect Sean Parker said. “You always look for a site that is iconic and special. With the park right next door and the trail, it’s sort of walkable. It’s just the perfect spot.” Parker, a Bainbridge Island architect and owner of Sean Parker
Architects, said he expects the project to start next spring. Construction will take about 15 months, allowing the condos to open in 2016 some time. The units will be between 1,000 squarefeet to 2,200 square-feet with three-sided views of the water. “There will be great SEE CONDOS, A9
The 12-year-old boy found unresponsive earlier this week in the water at Island Lake Park dock died Wednesday, according to Marce Edwards, a spokesperson for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. After being found unresponsive in the water on Monday, Jeffrey L. Hentz was transported to Bremerton’s Harrison Medical Center and placed on a respirator. Within an hour he was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma. Jeffrey was visiting the park with his grandfather, Richard Boggess, on Monday afternoon when he decided to join others in the water near the fishing pier. A bystander told investigators Jeffrey couldn’t swim. A child called 911 at 3:07 p.m. to report a possible drowning when Jeffrey was found partially submerged in the water near the fishing dock, facedown in the weeds. Several bystanders
assisted with CPR on Jeffrey after he was pulled out of the water. A registered nurse on site assisted with CPR as another person did chest compressions. Medics arrived at Island Lake Park at 3:13 p.m. and started treating Jeffrey one minute later. Kitsap County Sheriff ’s Office deputies arrived at 3:15 p.m. Kitsap County Sheriff ’s Office spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said Jeffrey was pulled from the water and CPR was performed by a bystander until Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue medics arrived. Medics reported the boy was in full cardiac arrest upon arrival, Wilson said. A swimmer had overheard Boggess and Jeffrey talking about how the boy could not swim and needed to be SEE DROWNING, A9
