Pot bus rolling into town Cannabis-laced snacks will be sold from a food truck near Everett as part of a promotion for a botanical extractor. By Noah Haglund Herald Writer
EVERETT — The temptation to infuse the food-truck fad with marijuana apparently was too great to pass up. And so, if things go as planned, expect to see an entrepreneur
pull into a south Everett farmers market this weekend to hawk cannabis-laced snacks from a converted school bus. The hot-pink rolling restaurant, dubbed the Samich Truck, isn’t intended to comply with Washington’s rules for legal pot sales — and won’t. The state isn’t
even scheduled to start issuing licenses for voter-approved retail pot sales until July 7. The food truck’s backers want to sell THC-fortified sandwiches, popcorn and other treats to people with a doctor’s permission to use pot. It’s a gambit to promote a botanical extractor made by a Seattle-based MagicalButter.com. “We have incredible chefs and we want to showcase their skills and the quality of the machine,”
company CEO Garyn Angel said Tuesday. A blender-like appliance marketed as the MB2, the extractor can infuse plant flavors such as pomegranate or rosemary into all sorts of food products: oils, butters, vodkas and more. It also can do that with THC, the psychoactive — some would argue medicinal — ingredient See POT BUS, Page A2

LYNNWOOD — They came. They saw. They ate. An army of 110 goats is chomping through tangled vegetation that was overtaking the Alderwood mall detention pond. The goats will be on the job through July 2 or 3. The Lynnwood Public Works Department deployed them behind the AMC Loews Alderwood Mall 16 theaters to clear blackberry bushes and other overgrown greenery populating the steep slope around the pond.
The goats are grazing under contract with Rent-A-Ruminant of Vashon Island. Tammy Dunakin, the head wrangler and owner, began the business 10 years ago with two goats. Dunakin owns 135 now and names them all. They include Dewey, Guinness and Ringo. During a visit to their job site, it was clear each goat has a unique personality, moxie and spunk. Ernie has starred in a Taco Time commercial. “They love what they do,” Dunakin said. A majority of the goats are rescued or obtained from

goats are a perfect solution to overgrown areas. The animals curb unwanted vegetation without herbicides. “The city has been very sustainability-minded,” City Councilman Ian Cotton said. And with goats, there is no debris left behind or even seeds. Their digestive system sterilizes seeds, so when the goats relieve themselves, the prospect of vegetation returning is slim. Goats will eat most plants including blackberries, ivy, Scotch broom, nettle, thistle,

The mandatory report doesn’t indicate which routes the railway uses to transport Bakken crude.
OLYMPIA — Trains each carrying at least 1 million gallons of Bakken crude oil are traveling through Snohomish County roughly 10 times a week, according to a report released Tuesday. The trains, operated by BNSF Railway, are transporting the North Dakota crude to refineries in Anacortes and Cherry Point, based on information given to the state earlier this month, as required by a new federal directive. Snohomish County is one of 16 in Washington through which BNSF moves large crude shipments, with the heaviest oil train traffic occurring in communities in the eastern and southwestern areas of the state. Data released Tuesday only covers train traffic from May 29 through June 4. Nineteen trains went through Klickitat County and 18 each rolled though Adams, Franklin, Skamania, Clark and Benton counties, the report shows. Fourteen trains traveled through King County, nine in Skagit County and five in Whatcom County. However, the numbers could be higher in some of those communities. BNSF Railway submitted an updated tally June 16 that won’t be made public until next week. Railroads must inform the state when the weekly number of trains increases or decreases by 25 percent, under the federal rule. The U.S. Department of Transportation in May ordered railroads to provide states a “reasonable estimate” of the number of trains carrying more than 1 million gallons of Bakken crude expected to travel through each county, each week and along which routes. Railroads are not required to provide the specific days and times of shipments. BNSF’s report doesn’t identify which routes it uses, as seems to be required under the federal rule, but state officials don’t plan to press for additional details. “We are comfortable with the information provided and have a solid understanding of the routes
