ince winning the Super Bowl the Seattle Seahawks have not slowed down and it doesn’t appear they will any time soon. The same goes for the Sea Gals. The Sea Gals held tryouts starting at the end of April and going through the beginning of May. There were three parts to the auditions. In the first round, anyone could perform a freestyle rou-
tine to music provided. If you were selected to move on, you entered the semi finals where those trying out to be a Sea Gal would perform a routine that they had been taught. And if you made it to the final stage, you performed a final routine and were interviewed. All those interested in joining the team must tryout, including those who were part of the Sea Gals last year.

Families of Swiss heritage, and those simply craving an immersion in the culture, are invited to Sangerfest 2014, a festival from July 10-13 in Bonney Lake and Tacoma. The Pacific Coast Swiss Singing and Yodeling Festival is held every three years by the United Swiss Singing Societies of the Pacific Coast. The society is comprised of nine clubs dedicated to the practice and preservation of traditional swiss singing. The first festival was held in 1935 but a few years were missed due to societal struggles during World War II. The 2014 production marks the 28th year the society has gathered to sing and yodel together. Each celebration is hosted by

increase sight distance. Crews will also widen the lanes to 12 feet and pave six-foot shoulders, install guardrail along the roadway between Hille and Bowman lakes and add stormwater facilities.
Due to construction Ninth Street East between 190th Avenue East and 198th Avenue East near Lake Tapps Park will close June 23 while crews rebuild the roadway.
The road closing will allow the project contractor, SCI Infrastructure, to excavate and then rebuild the roadway at a lower elevation. After the road reopens, minor lane restrictions are expected until the project is completed in September.
According to a Pierce County press release the road will reopen by mid-August, depending on weather. County Officials stated traffic traveling east on Ninth Street East will be detoured north on 190th Avenue East, east along Edwards Road East, and then onto 210th Avenue East. Pierce County crews are reconstructing about 1,500 feet of Ninth Street East. According to the county release the work is being done for safety reasons. The roadway will be realigned and regraded to
The contractor began preparing the road for construction on May 14. Crews removed roadside vegetation, and began to work on shoulders and storm drainage structures. Utility companies then started work to relocate their facilities in order to minimize any potential conflicts with the road construction activities. The construction cost is about $883,000. The project is funded by County Road Funds and Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funds. A detour map is available online at www. co.pierce.wa.us/index.aspx?NID=3525.
