Heavy Haul Corridor Milwaukee Way paving project begins June 30
Image Courtesy City of Tacoma Construction is expected to begin next week on a project to upgrade a major section of Milwaukee Way between Lincoln Avenue and Marshall Avenue on the Port of Tacoma tide flats. This stretch of road is part of a Heavy Haul Corridor, which serves many port-related industries and businesses. According to Port of Tacoma officials and City of Tacoma officials, approximately three-andone-half inches of the existing roadway surface will be ground off and replaced by a geotextile reinforcement layer overlain by three-and-onehalf inches of new asphalt pavement. The $867,000 project is being paid for by a $750,000 grant from the Puget Sound Regional Council, as well as $117,000 in heavy haul permit fees. The contractor, Tucci & Sons, is scheduled to begin construction on Mon., June 30. The work is expected to last approximately four to six weeks. Access to all businesses will be provided during construction. More information about the project is available online at cityoftacoma.org.
