Despite the wild weather, dads, families, and car lovers in general came out Sunday, Father’s Day, to admire the hot rods and other cars at Fenders on Front Street. Cars lined Front Street for close-up viewing, some with the hoods up so as to admire the shiny engines. But to do so, viewers had to deal with sun, rain, sun, rain, repeat. And when it rained, it poured and people ducked for cover. Jim Kruse of Sammamish was proudly showing his 1965 Corvette Sting-Ray. from originally. “It still has a lot of this and that to do — our entire family restored it,” he said. Most of the interior was original. He said the family brought it out west in 2010 and this was the first time it had been out of the garage in two years. As the rain poured, Glen Jewett sought protection under his large umbrella, while he showed his 1966 Morgan, a wood frame British car. He said he doesn’t take it out much anymore. In the muscle car world, and there were many represented. Lori and George Tyler of Renton brought their 1997 Viper GTS, which they bought in 1999. Lori smiled brightly as she started it up for the cruise.
Klahanie residents voted against annexation to Issaquah in February, opening the door for a chance to join Sammamish. On May 7, Sammamish welcomed Klahanie residents to a special dinner at City Hall to talk about what comes next. “We wanted to get everyone together, hear from all sides, and let everyone know what steps Sammamish needed to take toward annexation,” said Sammamish City Manager Ben Yazici. “It was a very congenial dinner. Even though some of the guests had worked very hard on behalf of annexation to Issaquah, everyone seemed to have an open mind about the possibilities of joining Sammamish.” Sammamish officials said that providing Klahanie residents with the opportunity to join Sammamish will take a lot of regional cooperation. Among other things, Issaquah will have to transfer Klahanie into Sammamish’s “potential annexation area,” or PAA, requiring the blessing of two
