EVERETT — It took less than 12 hours for Kristen Shaulis to lose nearly all her worldly
possessions when she made an unplanned stop in Everett in early March. By the time police found her belongings, including her minivan, Shaulis and her two black
Labradors, Max and Misty, were on a boat headed north to her new job in Alaska. Everett resident Karl Myers left town Friday driving her minivan and everything that was recovered. The 65-year-old will make the two-day ferry trip to Anchorage, where he will catch another ferry to Metlakatla, a small town on Annette Island southeast of

Locals used the nickname with affection to describe the laidback Seattle transplant who wore his long gray hair in a pony tail and drove a ratty old pickup. Gerald Logan, 63, grew to love his adopted Oso home where he spent the last two decades of his life with partner Shelley Bellomo, 55, on E. Steelhead Drive. The couple enjoyed their cats and the simple rhythms of country life along the Stillaguamish River. “He was Oso, in my mind,” said attorney Ben Wells, who lives in the unincorporated community between Arlington and Darrington. “He was a handyman, carpenter, fix-it guy. He was quite unassuming, completely trustworthy.” Logan and Bellomo were among the 41 people killed in the March 22 mudslide that destroyed their Steelhead Haven neighborhood. Two others remain missing and are presumed dead. Like his father before him, Gerald traded the “G” for a “J” and went by Jerry. He grew up in Seattle and

Watch out, Dawg. The Cougar is on the prowl. Washington State University has set up shop in downtown Everett with a barrage of crimson and gray Cougar paraphernalia — on the Husky side of the Cascades. It’s a sign of more “Wazzu” power to come as the Pullmanbased university extends claws westward with educational programs in an area where the University of Washington has held sway.
