Idle highway section in ruins

A section of West Valley in Algona and near Pacific remains closed with severe cracks and sinkholes. SHAWN SKAGER,

Officials: Repairing road will take considerable time, cooperation, money BY SHAWN SKAGER sskager@auburn-reporter.com

Algona Mayor Dave Hill chuckles talking about the condition of the closed section of West Valley Highway.

Not that the indefinite closure of one of the main arterials through the Green River Valley is any laughing matter. It’s just that the condition of the road – closed since a Feb. 17

Man who killed Auburn cab driver receives 12 years BY ROBERT WHALE rwhale@auburn-reporter.com

RUSH HOUR Children dart at the start of the Cats and Dogs 1K Fun Run at Roegner Park last Saturday. The Lakeland Hills Elementary and Mt. Baker Middle School PTSAs presented the first occurrence of what will be an annual event, with proceeds benefitting both

schools’ programs. A bake sale and raffle followed the run/walk. Seahawks mascot Blitz was on hand to entertain and encourage participants. RACHEL CIAMPI, Auburn Reporter

The man who crashed his van into Brian Love’s taxi in the early morning hours of July 5, 2013, killing the popular Auburn cabbie, learned last Friday he would be heading to prison for 12 years. BY ROBERT WHALE rwhale@auburn-reporter.com

The King County Prosector on Tuesday charged Dustin J. Chase, 24, and Tauna Elaine Johnson, 38, each with one count of firstdegree robbery for their

roles in a drug deal turned robbery turned shooting last Friday morning in a south Auburn parking lot. Medics transported the shooting victim, Joleen Villamor, to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with gunshot wounds to the

neck. According to medical staff, Villamor, in her mid-30s, suffered a severed spinal cord and is paralyzed from the neck down. As of Tuesday morning, she was still in critical condition.

It’s a Mardi Gras for cats, dogs and pets of all descriptions. It’s a celebration played out at a place fittingly named Game Farm Park. Auburn’s award-winning Petpalooza, a pet lover’s paradise featuring a day full of animal-related fun, food, live entertainment and more than 160 vendors returns Saturday. [ more PETPALOOZA page 12 ]
