City could lose $3 million grant that feeds project Community center remains on the shelf By ROBERT WHALE rwhale@auburn-reporter.com

Members of the Auburn City Council on March 3 said no, for now, to building a community center in Les

Auburn-based aerospace parts maker Skills, Inc. on April 30 celebrated its sparkling new partnership with AJAC, the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee, at its plant on C Street Northeast. And there was a lot to shout about. The partnership, formed to train precision sheet metal fabricators, is new in time and kind, representing the first time a business has hosted AJAC.

Sweeping success Volunteers gathered in downtown Auburn last Saturday for Clean Sweep, a communitywide effort that focused on cleanup and beautification efforts. Volunteers worked on general cleanup, landscaping, weeding and other projects at parks, trails and other

spots around Auburn. Mayor Nancy Backus, riding a Trojan horse made by the Auburn High School robotics team, joined Sen. Joe Fain (R-Auburn), to her left, and City and community leaders in the effort. RACHEL CIAMPI, Auburn Reporter

development organization. But when she found out five years ago that she was pregnant with her second child, the author inside began to manifest. “It was something new for my daughter, who was 9,” Nolte said.
