Online auction will benefit VCC Vashon Community Care’s 14th Labor of Love online auction will start at noon today, Feb. 12. All proceeds will help fund resident activities and trips throughout the year. As part of this island tradition begun 16 years ago, islanders can bid on hundreds of items and services made or performed by other islanders. A wide range of items, services and experiences are available to bid on, including being a distiller for a day, having a pet’s portrait painted by island artist Jayne Quig, going on an overnight cruise to Blake

Island on a 44-foot Trimaran sailboat, gardening chores, one homemade pie a month for six months and a keg of Cliff’s Beer. The care center did not hold the Labor of Love last year because it was focused on refinancing the building, said Linda Milovsoroff, the center’s director of development. The last auction, in 2012, brought in $14,000 she said, and the goal for this year is $18,000. Labor of Love will run for two weeks, ending at noon Wednesday, Feb. 26.
