Shooting sends one to hospital

East Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to a shooting at 7:49 a.m. Sunday. The incident occurred outside Sumner in the 14000 block of 96th Street East. The residence is located between Sumner and Orting off state Route 162, according to Battalion Chief Rick Goetz. The victim was transported to a trauma center after sustaining at least one gunshot. Other injuries were inflicted as well. Pierce County Sheriff deputies are investigating the incident.

Former Sumner student aims to make millions Sarah Wehmann Staff Writer

Former Bonney Lake resident, Houston Gunn, set a goal when he was a freshman at Sumner High School to graduate a millionaire. Now at 16 years old, Gunn has written his first book titled “Schooled for Success: How I Plan to Graduate from High School a Millionaire.”

He set the goal the first day of his freshman year after a “Welcome to high school” assembly where the leadership teacher told the students that with education and hard work, everyone should be worth a million dollars in their lifetime. Gunn said he thought about it and that would

Municipal court clerk terminated By Theresa De Lay Staff Writer

The city of Sumner issued apology letters to approximately 3,600 people, including some of the city’s own employees, who were affected by a recent security breach. A temporary employee, serving as a court clerk for the city of Sumner, admitted to accessing municipal court files and emailing them to her own personal account. The files contained names, addresses and birthdays of defen-
