Two mayoral candidates and six City Council hopefuls took the stage in a public debate last week, tackling everything from finding funding for road maintenance and construction to the acceptability of marijuana-
related businesses in Auburn, to the wisdom or folly of the direction in which the City is now headed. The debate – a two-hour question-and-answer session sponsored by the Auburn Reporter and the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce at the Auburn Avenue
Theater on Oct. 9 – shed some light on the candidates’ views. The general election is Nov. 5. In an unusual debate format, candidates were provided with questions ahead of time and given 30 seconds to answer them. [ more DEBATE page 9 ]

It came at last, the day some hard-boiled skeptics sniffed never would – the official groundbreaking for Landmark Development’s Trek Apartments project at the old Cavanaugh block site on East Main Street.
Even a little fall of rain couldn’t squib the celebratory mood of the crowd that showed up to listen to officials go on about the project on Oct. 10 and to watch honchos toss a few symbolic shovels full of dirt after the tongues fell silent. [ more PROJECT page 8 ]
