OH mayor launching his own TV interview show By JESSIE STENSLAND Staff reporter

Oak Harbor Mayor Scott Dudley plans to direct and star in his own TV show. Skeptical council members, however, say they would consider the production a comedy if it wasn’t for the dramatic waste of staff time. During a recent meeting, Dudley urged the members of the City Council to bring back the standing committee meetings, which were replaced with one large workshop each month. Dudley emphasized that the four monthly

standing committee meetings were videotaped and televised on Channel 10 and available for viewing on the city’s website so that citizens can also keep track of what’s happening. But the council decided to continue with a once-monthly workshop and forego the standing committee meetings. Council members said that makes best use of everyone’s time. Dudley wasn’t pleased, so he’s decided to interview department heads in front of cameras in an effort to make up for the loss of meetings. See TV SHOW, A12

The Samish Indian Nation filed a complaint for damages against the city this summer. The tribe is seeking $20,000 in damages. Oak Harbor City Supervisor Larry Cort said the city forwarded the complaint to the city’s insurance agency. He said the city hasn’t heard anything further from the Samish since the complaint was filed. The Samish, a relatively small tribe based in Anacortes, is seeking just a fraction of what the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is demanding from the city for the grave desecration. The Swinomish Tribe filed a $9-million complaint for damages followed by an ongoing, class-action lawsuit against the city and three contractors involved in the project. Leslie Eastwood, the Portland attorney for the Samish, said the tribe isn’t seeking punitive damages, as the Swinomish are, so the amount demanded is much less. She said the $20,000 See BONES, A12
