A standing Bonney Lake nature preservation group has just become official. The Fennel Creek Preservation Group joined the National Wildlife Federation earlier this summer, rechristening itself the Fennel Creek Habitat Team. The group seeks to preserve the Fennel Creek watershed. Fennel Creek is the largest of eight tributaries in the mid-Puyallup River Basin and home to the Victor Falls; the watershed also covers the majority of one of the fastest growing cities in western Washington. “If we don’t preserve our natural habitats for the next generation, we’re not going to have any left,” Habitat Steward Marian Betzer said. “You can’t have (fresh air and water) in a place that’s been really drastically

Runaway fugitive shot by deputies in Buckley By Kevin Hanson Senior Writer

Justin Linn had already built a long rap sheet, made threats to wipe out a local family and twice eluded Pierce County authorities. With that in mind, deputies determined the fugitive would not be leaving Buckley Thursday morning. The 28-year-old had

other ideas and – instead of submitting to an officers’ orders – attempted to flee from the parking lot of a Buckley motel where he had spent the night. The drama ended quickly when shots rang out and Linn dropped to the ground along West Main Street, just a long block from the busy intersection of Main and state Route 410. Emergency

medical assistance was rendered with Linn stretched out on the West Main pavement, until an ambulance whisked him away to Tacoma General Hospital. Later Thursday morning, word was received that Linn had successfully gone through surgery and was in stable condition.
