The strange trial of an accused killer took even more unusual turns Monday in Island County Superior Court. The defendant, Joshua Lambert, was temporarily replaced by a television set in the courtroom because of his continued outbursts. The jurors were able to see his disembodied head on the screen, but they could no longer hear his voice. Later, Lambert returned to the courtroom and testified, but remained at the defense table; the judge ruled he’s too unpredictable to sit next to the jury at the witness stand. Shakespeare in the tent is on for this August and September. Thanks to the support and open wallets of Bard supporters, more than $32,000 was raised

for Island Shakespeare Festival. However, if passers-by missed seeing a 2,400-square foot, 18-foot-high tent behind Langley Middle School, it would be understandable. Delivery of the tent is a few weeks behind schedule and slated for the end of July.

“Everyone will know when it goes up because it’s a big, big thing,” said Peggy Juve, the festival board’s president and development director. A delay in raising the tent did not stall the 14-member cast’s preparations. SEE FESTIVAL, PAGE A11

the direction he takes the newspaper in the coming months and years,” Graves said. Burnett has worked as a reporter for the Whidbey News Group newspapers on Whidbey Island for about three years. Previously, he was a reporter for The Whidbey SEE EDITOR, PAGE A11
