King County sets recall election for Pacific mayor

Plaza owner wants to buy space for health care organization In 2010, the City of Auburn bought space within the One Main Professional Plaza from Jeff Oliphant, its owner and builder. Now Oliphant, principal of Auburn Professional Plaza LLC, wants to buy back some of that space in the building just east of City Hall. Specifically, he wants to back Unit 380 on the building’s third floor. As Oliphant explained to City officials Monday, a health care organization wants to lease the entire south wing of the third floor overlooking East Main Street, including Unit 380. Voters in the City of Pacific will be allowed to vote in a recall election for mayor on June 25. “King County Elections (on May 9) verified more than 415 signatures, the minimum number of petition signatures required for the recall election of Cy Sun, mayor of Pacific,” Cy Sun said Sherril Huff, director of King County Elections. The 415 signatures required for the recall election represent 35 percent of the total votes cast for the candidates in the mayoral race in the November 2011 election. Residents

submitted the petitions with 590 signatures to the elections department in late April. King County delivered a letter May 9 to Sun and to the sponsor of the recall petition, Don Thomson, chairman of the Committee to Recall Cy Sun, stating that the requirements to hold a recall election have been met, notifying them of the election date and affirming the synopsis of the ballot. “I couldn’t sit in my chair (when I got the letter), I was so excited,” Thomson said. “I can’t express my gratitude for the people who worked on this and the people who donated money.”
