into the Port of Poulsbo beginning next Friday, and their passengers have a lot to look forward to. For the five Fridays in May, between 70-80 passengers will explore Poulsbo, and the town is pulling out all the stops. The

Poulsbo Historical Society is offering walking tours, and the shops in downtown Poulsbo and the Marine Science Center are opening early (about 8 a.m.). Transportation will be provided to take passengers to the Suquamish

Museum. The passengers will even be greeted with some distinctive Poulsbo flair — the Clam Island Band will perform at the Kvelsted Pavilion, two girls dressed in bunader — traditional Norwegian folk dress — will welcome passengers, and the Vikings will make an appearance.

ORT ORCHARD — South Colby Elementary School second- and fourth-graders gathered in music teacher Lisa Mills’ classroom, confident that they were there to honor her as the elementary school’s Masonic Educator of the Year. That is where the surprise came in. About 20 minutes into the class Tuesday afternoon, Jesse Chapman, stationed aboard the USS John C. Stennis since it left Bremerton in August for the Middle East, walked through the door. “Holy cow,” said his 9-yearold daughter, Kylie. Kylie and her 7-year-old sister, Rhiannon, then embraced their father as the elder sister cried before cameras. “I thought it was a dream,” Kylie said. Rhiannon admitted to being shocked, but said she did not want to be as outwardly emotional as her sister. “If this is on the news, I don’t want to be crying on TV,” she said.

POULSBO — Poulsbo port commissioners said it was Brad Miller’s vision that encouraged them to promote him to the port manager position. Miller has been harbormaster at the port since 2007, with two stints as acting port manager. Miller was chosen out of 14 applicants, accord-

KINGSTON — Kitsap is “the eddy” to Seattle’s fast-current market, according to Frank Wilson, Kitsap district manager for John L. Scott Real Estate and a member of the Northwest Multiple Listing Service board of directors. “Our homes are still selling nicely, with a medium amount of multi-offer activity and a normal-market spring ramp-up,” he said. In March, the median closing price of a home in Kitsap County was $230,550 — a 32.10 percent increase over the same month last year, according to the Northwest MLS, which tracks real estate data in 21 Washington counties.
