City officials tee off at upgrade to golf clubhouse By ROBERT WHALE rwhale@auburn-reporter.com
Holman
By August or September 2013 at the latest, the Auburn Golf Course Clubhouse will get a $35,000 upgrade to its audio-visual systems. Only, it will get that upgrade without the second look Councilman John Hol-
man had hoped to have once the actual plans for the new-system-to-be are finished and viewable this summer. In asking for that second eyeballing, just as the City Council at its most recent meeting was poised to vote on entering into a contract with Avidex Industries LLC, a supplier and installer of the systems, Holman asked “that all
costs associated with golf-course A-V equipment be referred back to council prior to expenditure.” As Holman saw things, perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea for the City to spend money on a speaker system or on a TV monitor to track tee times at such a precarious time in the economy. “Presently, expenditures at the golf
course, to me, don’t make financial sense,” Holman said. “As the economy improves, these A-V improvements may well be a good, bottom-line decision – just not now.” The audio-visual system upgrades encompass not only the clubhouse but also systems in the Auburn City [ more UPGRADE page 7 ]
Pacific mayor orders staff not to attend council meeting By SHAWN SKAGER sskager@auburn-reporter.com
Racing resumes Friday with first post at 6:45 p.m. A full card of Thoroughbred racing is on tap for Saturday and Sunday, with first post at 2 p.m. both days.

Mayor Cy Sun – who was also a no-show at the meeting – told staff Cy Sun not to attend because “the staff is all unraveled with nervousness from the pressure the council has been putting on them.” Although Sun did not elaborate on the specifics of the pressure alledgedly brought to bear by the council, an April 10 memo from Pacific Finance Director and acting City Clerk

FRIENDS TRY THEIR HAND AT FILMMAKING By SHAWN SKAGER sskager@auburn-reporter.com
Shooting an independent film based one’s own life can be downright weird. “This is my childhood home, so it’s basically watching my life,” Jennifer Foreman, a 2002 Auburn
High School graduate said, one eye on the split-level home on Lea Hill where she’s shooting most of “An Appointment with Mr. Vield”. “It’s a little strange.” In front of the lens Keri Barker, Foreman’s longtime friend and co-producer, prepares for a scene in which she plays a role modeled on
Foreman. “It’s fun for me,” said Barker, a 2001 Auburn graduate. “You really can’t ask for much more as an actor than to play a character based on someone you’ve known forever.” Barker and Foreman always knew they would make films [ more film page 7 ]
