City looking for places to trim 2013 budget

Covington could use an image makeover. To that end, the city’s Economic Development Council (CEDC) is partnering with the Covington Chamber of Commerce to develop a brand which would help make the city COVINGTON more recognizable for those from outside the region. Jeff Wagner, who is co-chair of CEDC in addition to his roles on the City Council and Chamber board, said the city has considered the idea of developing a new image for Covington for more than a year. “We wanted a brand because cities around the country are changing their logos, coming up
The city of Maple Valley is strapped for cash, according to City Manager David Johnston. Possible solutions for a projected budget shortfall could include the elimination of the community development director and the city attorney. inger Passarelli, founder of The Soup Ladies, flanked by a number of volunteers from the nonprofit organization, received the keys and the title of a surplus truck donated by King
County Monday morning. King County Councilman Reagan Dunn personally handed over the keys and title to Passarelli in the parking lot of her restaurant, Mama’s, in Black Diamond. This is the second vehicle the county has donated to The Soup
Ladies. In 2008, the county donated a tow vehicle after providing the group a grant to pay for a mobile kitchen. “About four years ago, give or take, the county was able to provide the Soup Ladies a grant to pay for a mobile kitchen,” Dunn said. “In addition, we were able to scare up a truck … to deliver the (mobile kitchen) wherever the Soup Ladies went.” The Soup Ladies have been feeding first responders at all manner of emergencies for more than seven years, having traveled to help Hurricane Katrina victims, to southwestern Washington after [ more SOUP page 5 ]
