Bonney Lake facing big shortfall for 2013 By Brian Beckley Staff Writer

After several years of cutting it close but getting by, it appears the city of Bonney Lake is facing a major budget deficit for 2013. According to City Administrator Don Morrison, the city’s revenues are expected to come up nearly $900,000 short next year, primarily due to debt service, though the drop threatens even basic services. “The revenues we project for next year will not quite cover basic operations,” Morrison told the council during the Oct. 2 workshop. “It’s going to be a challenge.” “It’s a little bit lower than we thought,” agreed Mayor Neil Johnson. “We have to look at it and figure out a game plan.” Morrison said revenues are declining in two major ways: Sales tax revenues are “flat” compared to last year, sales tax on construction is still “way down” due to the recession. Emerald Hills students join Walk to School Day By Brian Beckley Staff Writer

With the sun shining high and warm, Wednesday morning was a beautiful time for walk. And walk they did, with dozens of students arriving at Emerald Hills and Liberty

Ridge Elementary Schools by foot, bike, with parents, with dogs and with siblings, all part of International Walk to School Day. “It was nice,” said Jameson Farmer, 6, of his 1.5-mile walk to Emerald Hills.
