Events like the one we attended today put us face-to-face with key decision makers, and help open new doors for Washington state companies that have never been opened before. This was our opportunity to sell business leaders on the advantages of doing business in Washington state, and with Washington state companies." "Direct investment by Indian firms in Washington and our companies creates jobs for our communities, many with better than average compensation in sectors such as life sciences, technology and advanced manufacturing," Commerce director Rogers Weed said. "Since 2008, the amount of Indian firms that have invested in the United States has grown by more than 50 percent and the trend remains strong – that's a huge opportunity for Washington. Our primary competitive advantages for business are well-matched with India's fastest-growing sectors." Weed moderated a panel discussion at the CII roundtable. Tacoma City Council to vote on resolutions supporting Prop. 1, R-74 Posted online Fri., Oct. 5 Tacoma City Council is scheduled to vote on two resolutions that would formally express support for two ballot measures that will be voted on by voters this Election Day. The first resolution would express support for, and urge Tacoma voters to approve, Referendum Measure 74 allowing same-sex couples to marry, preserving domestic partnerships only for seniors, and preserving the right of clergy or religious organizations to refuse to perform, recognize, or accommodate any marriage ceremony. The resolution is sponsored by councilmembers Ryan Mello and Anders Ibsen. The second resolution would express support for, and urge Tacoma voters to approve, Proposition 1 increasing the sales and use tax in Pierce County in order to support Pierce Transit services. The resolution is sponsored by mayor Marilyn Strickland and councilmembers Jake Fey and Ryan Mello. Tacoma City Council is scheduled to vote on the resolutions during its meeting on Tues., Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers on the first floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building, located 747 Market Street.
