More than 200 people crowded the City Council Chamber on Monday night to argue against a City plan to contract out Auburn’s court services to King County District Court.
No, said opponents, mingling humor with cool arguments, exasperation, anger, and even applause, they didn’t want it. They preferred to keep local control over the court. More was at stake than saving money, they said.
A refrain of sorts even developed. Why? “The Auburn Municipal Court can provide (a minimal services court). It can provide that service for $255,000 less than what the County can provide,” said Municipal Court

Ideas abound for environmental park
Mayor pitches new plan Pacific Mayor Cy Sun hosted a public meeting Tuesday at City Hall to outline his plans to reorganize City administration, prevent cancellation of the City’s insurance and cut personnel costs. At issue, the letter the City received July 2 from the Cities Insurance Association of Washington, notifying it that Pacific’s membership in the association would be cancelled, Cy Sun effective Dec. 31. Alongside that alarming news, the City learned that insurance carrier Canfield was planning to drop it. To keep these things from happening, the City must fill a number of critical, but now vacant, positions, including public works director, City engineer and building inspector. Sun laid out his plan to forge an inter-local agreement with the City of Auburn to use its employees for those critical services. [ more PACIFIC page 3 ]

Valley Regional Fire Authority investigators on Friday determined that an arsonist set the four-alarm fire that overwhelmed the Auburn Way Self-Storage building on Auburn Way
North on July 11. Investigators said they believe the arsonist lit the fire in a single storage unit in building “E”. For the sake of the ongoing investigation, investigators have not yet released the source of ignition and the materials first set ablaze.
