FREE COMPUTER TRAINING Pioneer Computers is now offering free computer training for those ages 55 and over. Come in to view training videos on Windows 7 and applications such as Ancestry.com, eBay, Facebook, PayPal, Photoshop, iPad & iTunes and many, many more. Videos can be viewed as many times as you like. A comfortable chair and headphones are provided. Please call 679-3839 to schedule an appointment. We ask that you please limit yourself to 1- 2 hours at a time.
PROPER FLAG DISPOSAL The George Morris Post of the American Legion, located at 690 SE Barrington, accepts worn or dirty flags that need to be disposed of properly. There is an old mailbox in the Legion’s entrance hall where the flags can be dropped off. The flags are saved and disposed of in formal flag burning ceremonies.

Coming to the Seattle Opera in August 2013, Richard Wagner’s four opera cycle known as The Ring. This awardwinning production, inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, was unveiled in 2001 to wide acclaim, and revived to sold-out audiences in 2005 and 2009. A sign-up sheet for this event can be found at the travel desk, located inside the Oak Harbor Senior Center. Tickets must be purchased far in advance of the performances as these opera’s always sell out. The Oak Harbor Senior Center MUST have a minimum of 16 persons to attend. The price of tickets are not know at this time, but will be announced soon. There will be an additional transportation charge for each performance. If you would like to attend these performances in August 2013, please sign up now or call 2794587. We need to know how many tickets to put on hold. Thank you.

Senior 5k Walk The Whidbey Island Military Senior 5K Walk is scheduled for 9 am Friday, August 3, 2012. Check-in will begin at 8 am. This event is for retired military and their family members who are 55 and older. The course will be on the Seaplane Base and begin and end at the Commissary. There will be no running allowed. Registration forms will be available at the Commissary, Oak Harbor Senior Center, and Naval Hospital Oak Harbor. After completing the registration, you can turn it in at the 5K Walk display located in the Commissary produce section beginning June 24th. Entry deadline is July 27. All entries will receive a special event-printed night vest for safe walking and a pedometer which are yours to keep! On the day of the event, check-in features will include: Weight/Body Mass Index (BMI) reading; Blood Pressure Screening and a Dietician available for questions. Health Record cards will be given to each participant to establish a base line and to document your progress in future walks. Water, sunscreen and first-aid will be provided for this event. Restrooms will be available at the Commissary.So get your walking shoes, comfortable clothing, and a hat ready for a morning of fun in the sun with your friends and family. e’re celebrating teachers and school personnel this summer with the AARP Driver Safety Educator Appreciation Promotion! The offer is to those individuals who have been an educator, or have worked for a school district or university in any capacity. This includes everyone from custodians, secretaries, aides, pre-school teachers, college professors, guidance counselors, band directors, school nurses, Sunday school teachers, cafeteria workers, and even parents who home-school their children. It does not matter how long someone was an educator, or if they have a teaching degree. The AARP Driver Safety classroom course is the nation’s first and largest course designed for drivers 50 and older. You’ll learn proven safety strategies to help maintain your confidence behind the wheel, so you can make new memories on the road. Plus, you could get a great discount on your car insurance!
