The event is to raise money in the foundation’s ‘Bridge the Gap’ campaign in order to hire more teachers and provide more resources for education in light of the state’s budget cuts to schools. Mercer Trade Inc., the Mercer Island High School DECA chapter and Seattle Adaptive Sports have teamed up for a fundraiser on April 18 at the high school. The annual wheelchair baseball game and silent auction begins with the auction at 6 p.m., followed by the game at 7 p.m. Students and staff from Mercer Island, Sammamish and Newport high schools will place against SAS Junior Sonics. Proceeds benefit SAS scholarships. Tickets are $5 (pre-sale), or $7 at the door.

Former Mercer Island assistant city manager and city attorney, Londi Lindell, has a new job. She is the new city administrator for the city of North Bend. Lindell was fired by the city of Mercer Island in 2008. She later sued for wrongful dismissal and discrimination. When the suit ended last summer, the city’s insurance company brokered a settlement deal and paid $1 million in damages to Lindell. The city paid more than $180,000 in penalties, which included public records violations. Last Tuesday evening, North Bend mayor Ken Hearing presented Lindell to the city council for final confirmation of his choice for the job. Regarding the lawsuit against
