POULSBO — Anderson Parkway could someday be a park, its asphalt replaced by grass, with visitors parking offsite in a parking structure. But that’s in the future. In the meantime, the city will replace the cracking asphalt in the parkway and add rain gardens to filter tainted stormwater runoff before it reaches Liberty Bay. The City Council considered four options Wednesday and chose the one least favored by downtown businesses, what council members called the “tear off the Band Aid approach”: Repave the entire parkway, and do it in October when weather is less likely to cause delays. Downtown business owners asked at a workshop two days earlier for the work to be done in January, when business is slowest. Parking will be reconfigured to add two or three parking spaces and areas to load and unload. Additional lighting will be installed. Dumpsters will be relocated. Currently, there are 197 parking spaces; the project will result in 199.
