he 19th Annual Community Summit was popularly attended Thursday, filling Calvary Community Church’s main auditorium to the brim clear through the end of the night. The Summit—themed “The Heart of the Matter”—was put on by the Communities for Families Coalition and put fitness front and center in a pre-summit session headed by Loren Willson, and the breakout session, “Why Should Fitness Be a Priority?” Other breakout session topics included the importance of community block watches, public transportation in a future without Pierce Transit, the scarcity of affordable housing assistance, and juvenile perspectives on available city activities. During dinner, Bonney Lake High School

Drama presented a check for $2,480.40 to the Sumner/Bonney Lake Family Center. The amount encompassed the 20 percentage of ticket revenues from the troupe’s recent production of the musical “Annie.” Sumner High leadership class instructor John Norlin gave the Keynote Address, and spoke out on the importance of “pinky wiggling”: taking small positive actions in everyday life, justifying that the actions’ ripples will create positive outcomes no one could have anticipated. “Suppose there’s a guy who’s decided he wants to end his life,” Norlin said. “He’s picked out a bridge on the edge of town to jump from and a day to do it.
