The inaugural Lake Tapps Trash Bash took place Saturday and Sunday with volunteers fanning out across the lakebed to pick up litter and other debris. Members of the Sumner Bulldogs basketball team, above, were among the dozens that pitched in to clean up the lake. According to attendees, they found hats, sunglasses, golf balls, cans, clothing and lots of broken glass. Residents in the Dieringer School District should be receiving ballots this week for the district’s Educational Programs and Operations replacement levy, part of the Feb. 14 special election. According to Superintendent Judy Neumeier-Martinson, the levy makes up a “significant portion” – more than 32 percent – of the tiny district’s overall budget. “This is a replacement of the current levy that is in place,” she said. But according to NeumeierMartinson, the district this time around is asking for only 90 percent of the last levy, passed in 2010. The district is asking voters to

Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow has submitted city officials’ desire to be removed from Pierce Transit’s taxation and service footprint. Sumner joins Bonney Lake and Buckley in making the preliminary decision to get out of Pierce
