A little music, a little wine and a chance to support Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More were on the menu Wednesday night at DaVine in Maple Valley. Dace Anderson, president of the Maple Valley-based non-profit music school, explained in an email that the event was a great partnership. “We’re always looking for new ways to interact with the community and to give our students opportunities to perform,” Anderson wrote in an email interview. “There are still a lot of people who are having a hard time financially and, luckily for us, DaVine has given us a space where we can strive towards our goals of community interaction, student performance and raising money for people who can’t afford lessons.” The event drew quite a few patrons to DaVine, where they had the opportunity to fill a drum, bid on silent auction items and hear music by Anderson and Arielle Young, as well as a number of bands that formed at the music school such as the Small Town Boys. Work is moving along nicely at Maple Valley Town Square, the future home of Fred Meyer, restaurants, shops and a 10,500square-foot MultiCare facility that will offer medical services. Lisa Powell, director of leasing for Bellevue-based Powell Development, said quite a few new
tenants have signed on the dotted line since the developer broke ground in April. “We have a whole medical corridor,” Powell said. “We have Pinnacle Physical Therapy, Smile Brands… we have BECU, Chase Bank, Sprint, Burger King, Desert Sun and most recently Super Supplements.” In addition, some other companies from the region have signed
The city of Maple Valley purchased 2.79 acres of land for $1.1 million at Southeast 264th Street on Nov. 18. The purchase was made at a foreclosure auction after the City Council authorized City Manager David Johnston to bid for the two property lots a special meeting Thursday, Nov. 17. The resolution allowed Johnston to bid up to $1.3 million on the property lots. “This has been a long process with lots of ‘challenges,’” wrote Victoria Laise Jonas, deputy mayor, in an email interview. “But in the end I am very pleased.” According to Jonas, the city intends to use the property as a maintenance facility to store Public Works department vehicles, as well as an Emergency Operation Center (EOC), which is currently located at the King County Sheriff ’s Office Precinct 3. When the precinct closes the EOC will be moved to City Hall “Now, we now can utilize the existing panabode type modular house that is on our new property [ more LAND page 5 ]
leases including The Spot Coffee, a nail salon called Tip Toe Paradise Nails as well as a yogurt shop called The Nutty Squirrel. “That’s everybody we have officially signed a lease with right now,” Powell said. “We are working with a bunch of others but we can’t reveal them yet.” Fred Meyer had been interested in locating a store in Maple Valley for a number of years but the city had an ordinance on the books since incorporation that prevented big box stores coming in that had footprints of more than 60,000 square feet.
