KINGSTON — Walt Elliott doesn’t take office as Kingston’s newest port commissioner until Jan. 1, but he’s not wasting time in the interim. Elliott outlines his firstyear goals in a guest column in this edition of the Community News. But he’ll

focus on those goals after taking a family trip “to purge our systems of ‘campaignitis’, � taking the family dogs “for a lot of overdue long walks,� and spending time with his wife, Bobbie, on the beach. primary. Updated election results posted Nov. 11 by the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office showed Elliott with 1,271 votes to Jerry Kirschner’s 815. The election will be certified Nov. 29. Elliott will take office Jan. 1. Port of Kingston commissioners serve six-year terms.

They are empowered by state law to set objectives, policies and overall direction for the port district. Neighbor Aid, ShareNet Food Bank’s largest fundraiser, is under way. More than $60,000 is needed to maintain full services at ShareNet in 2012. Donations can be made to ShareNet, P.O. Box 250, Kingston, WA. 98346. Almost $12,000 was raised as of Nov. 9.

Kingston High School’s Miranda Hoffer cheers on Nicole Avila in the 200 Medley Relay consolation finals during the 2A Girls Swim & Dive Championships, Nov. 12 at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way. The team finished 13th with a time of 2 minutes 6.85 seconds. Avila, Hoffer, Katherine Andersen and Annika Barrett represented KHS in the finals. Jennifer Fisher, Madeline Glad, Alice Healy and Britannia James traveled to State as alternates. KINGSTON — One man was killed and another airlifted to the regional trauma center after an apparent one-car crash late Nov. 10 on Little Boston Road between Cliffside and Hansville roads, about six miles northnorthwest of Kingston. It was the second fatal crash in Kitsap County in a day and the third fatal crash in the Kingston area since September. North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched just after midnight Nov. 11 and found Christopher R. Ziegler, 23, of Bremerton deceased in the driver's seat. Ziegler is believed to have been driving the 2004 BMW M-3 2-door coupe. An off-duty sheriff ’s deputy on his way home found Ziegler’s passenger, a man, on the side of Little Boston Road and summoned help shortly after midnight, Sheriff ’s Department spokesman Scott Wilson reported. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the man conscious but suffering from head injuries and broken bones. An See FATAL CRASH, Page 7
