New faces will be seen on Sumner’s city council and Sumner School District’s Board of Directors. Election results are not technically final until certification on Nov. 29, but the picture of the results becomes more accurate every day as further vote counts are released by the Pierce County Auditor’s office.

The city council saw the victories of challenger Nancy Dumas against incumbent Jon Swanson, incumbent Curt Brown against challenger Melony Kirkish and challenger Mike LeMaster against challenger Joe Gerace. Deputy Mayor Cindi Hochstatter was also on the ballot, but ran and won unopposed. Dumas won with almost 58 percent of the vote in a contest

Woman killed after shootout with cops By Daniel Nash Staff Writer

A woman died in the aftermath of a confrontation with Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies and a Bonney Lake police officer that turned deadly when she drew and fired a gun Sunday. The woman, 38-year-old Seatac resident Holly Crahay, was reportedly seen Sunday, before 3 p.m., driving recklessly in a shopping center parking lot near 196th Avenue East. Her car was pursued

Sumner’s downtown merchants hosted the annual Hometown Holiday event, offering store open houses and recreations of Norman Rockwell Americana. Actors from Act 1 Theatre Productions (formerly Ascension Theatre Productions) portrayed the subjects of Rockwellian paintings in various windows around the historic downtown stretch. Above, Santa Claus sits inside Country Store Antiques. At right, Rosie the Riveter kept a flexed muscle from noon to 4 p.m. Individual stores offered specials for customers, ranging from sales to gifts to vendor presentations.

The congregation of Sumner Presbyterian Church voted Sunday to leave the national Presbyterian Church because of changes to the denomination’s constitution designed to allow non-celibate homosexuals into the clergy and lay leadership.
