Dr. Paul Joos, a longtime Renton eye surgeon, will replace Don Jacobson on the Public Hospital District No. 1 Board of Directors. Joos took a decisive lead over his opponent, Mary Alice Heuschel, superintendent of the Renton School District, following the release of initial general election results Tuesday night. He maintained that lead when the Wednesday results were posted, the last before the Renton Reporter deadline. The results showed Joos with 58.28 percent of the vote to Heuschel’s 41.43
After Tuesday night, Robin Jones and Ed Prince could only wait and watch as each day new results were posted in their ultra-close race for the Renton City Council. After the initial results from Tuesday’s general election were released that night, Prince led by just 128 votes. That lead grew to 203 votes after new results were posted Wednesday afternoon. “We really felt good,” Prince said Wednesday morning. “We really felt positive.” After his primary victory, Prince could

percent. The percentage had changed little from Tuesday night. Joos had a busy day Wednesday, in surgery and in his clinic. “I have worked very hard,” he said. “I think I will do a good job for the public.”

Rich Roodman will step down as superintendent of Public Hospital District No. 1 in December to concentrate on his role as CEO of the new strategic alliance between Valley Medical Center and UW Medicine. The hospital district’s commissioners will consider at their December meeting whether to appoint Jeannine Grinnell, the district’s treasurer, as the interim superintendent. Grinnell’s appointment was introduced at Monday’s board meeting by President Sue Bowman. Grinnell, who has extensive experience as a state auditor and in hospital finances, expressed an interest in the permaRich Roodman nent position. Early next year, after Dr. Paul Joos takes office to replace Don Jacobson, the board will prepare a new job description for the superintendent. Commissioners had a busy agenda Monday, including approving an increase of 1 percent in the hospital’s property-tax levy.
