I-405 set to close over this weekend
Bellevue outshines state on test scores
Delayed project will mean new on-, off-ramps Last weekend’s scheduled closure of Interstate 405 is back on – starting today. When crews reopen the road Monday morning, drivers headed to Redmond, Seattle and Kirkland will use new ramps to get to I-405 and State Route 520. “Many drivers travel the same routes day after day and get into a routine. The changes coming Monday are significant, said Seema Javeri, WSDOT project engineer. “We need drivers to get familiar with the changes this week so it’s not a surprise come Monday. New signs in and around Bellevue will direct drivers to SR 520 and I-405 using the new ramps. Drivers going to SR 520 will use Northeast 10th Street. The new ramp will take vehicles directly to eastbound and westbound SR 520. Eastside drivers will no longer have access to SR 520 from Northeast Eighth Street. Drivers will continue to use Northeast Eighth Street to reach I-405 but will use a new ramp to reach northbound I-405. Northbound I-405 drivers should prepare to exit to SR 520 nearly one-half mile earlier than the current exit point.

When he started going blind, that didn’t change. “You have to come to the point when you can embrace your situation, said Roberts, who was diagnosed with Retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that has caused him to lose almost all of his vision. “You realize that you can still do the things you want to do, just in a different way. Learning how to ski, literally in the dark, is one thing (Roberts did it in five private lessons with an instructor). More basic things to re-learn included how to survey a room, judg-

In all, this year’s semifinalist list includes a record 45 students from Bellevue schools. Newport High School also made a strong showing with 14 semifinalists. Five Bellevue High School seniors are on the semifinalist list, as well as two students from International High School. Semifinalists are eligible to compete for a $2500 National Merit Scholarship.
