King County Prosecutors last week filed seven counts of first-degree assault against a 42-year-old Covington man they accuse of going on a jealousy-fueled shooting

rampage in the early morning hours of July 24 at the crowded Galaxy nightclub in the Muckleshoot Casino. According to charging papers, Cesar Chaparro-Vielma shot his estranged wife, Blanca Arroyos, her boyfriend, Marco Hernandez-Maradiaga, and his

Local author to present D.B. Cooper case slideshow at Good Ol’ Days

Despite recent FBI claims that it has evidence that could determine the real identity of legendary skyjacker D.B. Cooper, local author Robert Blevins remains convinced that Bonney Lake resident Ken Christiansen was Cooper. Blevins will present three slideshows detailing the evidence that led to his recent book “Into the Blast – the True Story of D.B. Cooper,” published by Adventure Books of Seattle, at the Aug. 13-14 Good Ol’ Days at the Auburn Avenue Theater. Blevins co-wrote the book with New York City private investigator Skipp Porteous. It alleges that Christiansen – a former employee of Northwest Orient Airlines and a U.S. Army paratrooper – was the famous fugitive who hijacked a Northwest Orient Airlines Boeing 727-100 passenger jet and parachuted

For some, the idea of collage as art conjures up notions of hastily-slapped-together-secondgrade school projects, whole images clipped from magazines and pasted onto a piece of construction paper. One look at Auburn artist Carol Chen Lord’s collage pieces, however, and those images quickly vanish. Although the basics are the same – magazine paper cut or torn and glued onto another piece of paper – the finished product is nothing like those elementary school projects.
