Australian Resuscitation Council ALS Level 2

About The ARC ALS level 2 course prepares participants to effectively manage the patient in cardiac arrest as a team leader.

Audience This course is designed for healthcare professionals who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of their clinical duties, or to teach them on a regular basis. Appropriate participants include doctors and nurses working in critical care areas or on the cardiac arrest / medical emergency team and paramedics.

About Basic Life Support (BLS) is a mandatory compliance requirement for all Townsville Hospital and Health Service Clinical staff. The face to face session will provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to provide Basic Life Support in Adults

Basic Life Support - Assessor

About This course aims to provide a competency-based program designed to educate clinical and non-clinical staff in the assessment of Basic Life Support in Townsville Hospital Health Service (THHS). The course will provide a consistent approach to the assessment of Basic Life Support Competency Assessment required by all clinical and some non-clinical staff working in the THHS.

Audience All staff working at THHS that are required to assess Basic Life Support in their work area.

Duration Two hours

Learning Objectives At the end of the program participants will be able to:

• Correctly assess Basic Life Support according to the Clinical Competency Assessment – Basic Life Support required in the THHS

• Record assessment appropriately in Learning on Line (LOL)

• Appropriately manage participants who fail to achieve competency

Clinical Orientation 2020

Clinical Orientation is a structured program that welcomes and familiarises new clinical employees with The Townsville Hospital and Health Service. It is aimed to complement the induction phase by introducing the Townsville Hospital Health Service, whilst addressing mandatory clinical requirements of their role. CVAD - Central Venous Access Device

About This two-hour course aims to provide a competency-based program designed to educate clinical staff in the management of CVADs in The Townsville Hospital Health Service (THHS). The course will provide a consistent approach to the CVAD management and dressing Clinical Competency Assessment required by some clinical staff working in the THHS.

About PROMPT is an evidence based multi-professional training for obstetric emergencies. It is associated with direct improvements in maternal and neonatal outcomes and has been proven to improve knowledge, clinical skills and team work.

Urinary Care Workshop

About Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses will be competent to perform catheter insertion and related catheter care after successfully undertaking workshop components including theory and practical competency.

Venipuncture Education Program

About To enable health care professionals to perform venipuncture in a safe and efficient manner. Venipuncture is an invasive procedure. It is important to ensure your competency to promote comfort and safety for the patient.

On completion of the program the learner will:

• have a theoretical and practical knowledge of venipuncture.

• Be certified as competent to practice venipuncture

Audience All Clinical Health Staff

Duration 90 minutes

Learning Objectives

• To accurately identify the patient and match requests

• To minimise trauma or discomfort during the procedure

• To select a more suitable vein

• To select and use correct blood collection equipment

• To correctly label tubes, sign and date request forms

• To correctly handle the specimen

Prerequisite Pre-reading and quiz must be completed prior to attending the course and can be accessed via LOL.
