n what appears to be a tactical compliance with the directive of the leadership of their party, All Progressives Congress
(APC) senators yesterday disparaged the major components of the 2014 Budget, and sought a comprehensive overhaul of the Appropriation Bill. The lawmakers also lam-
pooned both the structural framework and policy parameters of the budget estimates, despite repeated pleas by Senate President David Mark, that the considerations and deliberations
on the budget should be guided by patriotic spirit. The APC senators took time to criticise the budget proposal, saying it failed to address the yearnings of ordinary Nigerians,

he House of Representatives has directed its committees on Defence and Internal Affairs to investigate the
arrest of 320 northerners by the Rivers state police on the suspicion that they were members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect. The committees were mandated to conclude their investi-
gations and make appropriate recommendations to the House within one week. In a motion moved by the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Abdulrahman
Suleiman Kawu (APC, Kano) under matters of urgent importance, noted that on Sunday, January 26, 2014, the Rivers state police command arrested about 320 persons suspected to
