utrage yesterday trailed the assassination, on Saturday, of renowned Zaria based Islamic scholar, Sheikh

Muhammad Auwal Adam Albani, who was murdered alongside his wife and son. Albani was said to have been killed while returning to his house in Gaskiya area of Zaria, Kaduna state, after delivering a sermon at the Markazul Salafiyya Islamic Learning Centre in Tudun Wada area of the city.

Shortly after the news spread across the state, several religious faithful went out in their numbers to register their grievances with the way and manner the religious scholar and members of his family were brutally murdered. It took the intervention of several clerics to douse the tense atmosphere in the city yesterday.

Speaking yesterday during the burial of the late scholar at Zaria cemetery, an Islamic cleric, Malam Musa Mai-Shawi, cautioned people against any attempted reprisals. The cleric said the plea was necessary in view of the tension caused by the sudden death of the popular cleric.

Mai-Shawi, who is the Chief Imam of “Darul Hadith”, a school established by the deceased, said although Albani’s death was painful, everything should be left to God. “There are no two ways about it, everybody is aggrieved about this sad development. However, Contd. on Page 2
